pole shed

Pole sheds you can actually work in.

Post-frame pole sheds, hobby barns, and outbuildings in west-central Minnesota. Site prep through trim-out, fully managed.

Pricing: Typical 30x40 pole shed runs $35k–$65k turnkey, depending on height, doors, insulation, and concrete floor.

A pole shed is a long-term tool — and rural west-central Minnesota landowners in Long Prairie, Perham, and Staples need buildings that hold up to hard winters and decades of use. We build post-frame structures with proper depth on the posts, full perimeter footings where code requires, treated lumber below grade, and trim work that holds up to weather.

Build types

  • Storage — minimum-spec, dirt floor, sliding doors. Cheapest path.
  • Workshop / hobby — concrete floor, insulated walls and ceiling, electric, walk doors, optional heat.
  • Vehicle storage — concrete floor, taller ceilings, large overhead doors, optional living quarter or loft.
  • Agricultural / equipment — wide spans, heavy-duty truss, multiple bays.

Scope

Site prep, foundation/footings, framing, roofing, siding, doors, soffit/fascia, trim, optional concrete floor, optional electric/insulation/HVAC. We coordinate licensed electricians and HVAC subs when those scopes are part of the build.

Common questions

Do I need a permit for a pole shed in west-central Minnesota?
Yes — every county in our service area (Douglas, Todd, Otter Tail, Grant, Swift) requires a building permit for pole sheds. We handle the permit application, drawings, and inspections as part of the project.
Concrete floor or dirt?
Concrete floor adds $7–$12/sqft and is worth it if you'll use the building for vehicles, equipment, or as a workshop. Dirt or gravel is fine for storage-only sheds.
Can I add insulation later?
Yes, but plan for it during framing so we can space studs and run vapor barrier correctly. Adding insulation to an uninsulated pole barn after the fact usually means tearing out the interior.
How long does it take to build a pole shed?
Most 30x40 to 40x60 builds run 4–8 weeks from break-ground to final walkthrough, weather permitting.
How much does a 30x40 pole shed cost in Minnesota?
A basic 30x40 storage shed (dirt floor, steel siding and roof, two doors) typically runs $35,000–$45,000. A finished workshop with concrete floor, insulation, and heat runs $55,000–$75,000. We provide a written line-item estimate.
Do you handle electrical and HVAC for the shed?
We coordinate licensed electricians and HVAC subs when those scopes are part of the build — you deal with one contractor, not three.
Do you build pole sheds near Long Prairie, Perham, and Staples?
Yes — most of our pole shed work is on rural properties in Todd, Otter Tail, and Douglas counties: Long Prairie, Perham, Staples, Eagle Bend, Parkers Prairie, Browerville, New York Mills, Alexandria, and Osakis. Free site consultation.
What's a workmanship warranty?
1-year workmanship warranty on framing, roofing, and siding. Structural issues within that period are covered. Manufacturer warranties on steel panels and trusses vary by supplier.
