hardscape
Outdoor builds that survive year two.
Retaining walls, paver walkways, fire pits, and outdoor living projects in west-central Minnesota.
Pricing: Retaining walls $35–$70/face-foot. Paver walkways $18–$28/sqft. Fire pits $1,800–$5,500 installed.
Outdoor stone and paver work around Alexandria lakes and Osakis acreages is judged by how it looks five winters later. We build for that — proper base, drainage, and edge restraint, every time.
What we build
- Retaining walls — block or natural stone, with proper drainage and engineering for taller walls
- Paver walkways and patios — concrete pavers, natural stone, or permeable systems
- Fire pits — gas or wood-burning, custom or kit-based
- Steps and landings
- Garden borders and edging
- Landscape lighting (low-voltage; coordinated with licensed electrician for line-voltage)
For larger landscape design (planting plans, irrigation), we partner with landscape designers and bring them in early.

Common questions
- Block vs natural stone retaining wall?
- Modular block (Versa-Lok, Allan Block) is faster, cheaper, and more predictable for engineered walls over 4 feet. Natural stone is more expensive and slower but reads as higher-end. Both can last decades.
- Do retaining walls need permits in west-central Minnesota?
- Most cities and townships in Douglas, Todd, and Otter Tail counties require permits and engineering for walls over 4 feet tall. We handle permit and engineered-drawing work as part of the project when required.
- Will pavers heave in Minnesota winters?
- Not if installed right. Proper base depth (6–8 inches of compacted class-5), polymeric joint sand, and edge restraints prevent the freeze/thaw movement that ruins poorly-installed pavers.
- How much does a retaining wall cost?
- Modular block retaining walls run $35–$70 per face-foot, depending on height and material. A 40-foot-long, 3-foot-tall wall typically runs $4,200–$8,400 installed including drainage behind the wall.
- How much does a fire pit cost?
- A built-in fire pit with block or natural stone runs $1,800–$5,500 installed, depending on size, material, and whether a gas line is involved. Kit-based fire pits with a paver surround run $1,800–$2,800.
- Do you install landscape lighting?
- Yes — low-voltage LED landscape lighting. For line-voltage work, we coordinate with a licensed electrician.
- Do you serve Alexandria, Osakis, and Sauk Centre for outdoor projects?
- Yes — retaining walls and paver work are common projects around Alexandria lakes, Osakis acreages, and rural Sauk Centre properties. We serve Glenwood, Carlos, Battle Lake, Fergus Falls, Perham, Long Prairie, and Little Falls as well. Free estimate.
- Warranty?
- 1-year workmanship warranty on hardscape installations. Covers wall movement, paver settling, and edge restraint failures attributable to installation. Freeze/thaw movement in improperly drained soils is evaluated case-by-case.
